Geographical position

Municipality of Gjilan is located in Southeaster part of Kosova, region of Anamorava with a surface of 515 km/². The good geographic position that it has and also being an important centre of triangle Gjilan, Presheve and Kumanove enables to the municipality good bindings with other centres of Kosova and region. The Office of Agency of Local Democracy was opened on 15 February 2003 in Gjilan.

The city is spread in wide lowland. It has good conditions for agriculture and is identified as agro-industrial city. It has mid continental clime, with hot summers and cold winters.

Average temperature of January is -0.9 Grade Celsius, while average temperature in July 21.5 grade. In Autumn, the rain season the average of rainfall is 177 mm, whilst in Summer – 129 mm. Quantity of rainfalls in Spring time is 145 mm and in Winter – 130 mm.

In Southeast Gjilan has Hills of Karadak and partly a plain part of Kosova – a fertile ground. The Gjilan region is determined by river of Morava e Binēes, which accumulates all small rivers, with monthly average water flow 6.7-meter cube per second.

Coordinates of stretching of the city of Gjilan/Gnjilane are 42 scales in West and 21.20 scales in South and in latitude above sea level of 501 and 590 m, while the region from 475 m in Budriga up to 1000 m sea level in border zone with Maqedonia (Stanqiq).

Region of Gjilan is rich with minerals (steel and lucid) and mineral sources (Nasale, Pidiq, Kmetovc, Pogragje, Perlepnice). It is distinctive from the other Municipalities with a more homogeneous paedology. In the biggest parts dominates lands of brown colour in limestone and dolomite and less fluvial lands and smonica lands.
